On August 13, 2001 I had bought a brand new VW Golf from the dealership. At the time of purchase i had only 35 miles on the odometer. Two weeks later as im driving down the road, the airbag light goes off on the dashboard making me a little nervous about it so i pulled into a dealership in Missori since i was traveling to get it looked at. The mechanic there said they wouldn't be able to help me since their workers are on strike.

A week later i finally got it to a dealership where the mechanic said that the spiral spring connectorin the airbag was defective. They replaced the spiral spring and said i shouldn't have anymore problems with the car.

September 7, 2001 the airbag light had gone off again with only 5,000 miles on the car. I brought it to the dealership again to get it looked at which the mechanic looked it over for three days.

When i went to pick up the car the mechanic told me that the wrong steering wheel and harness was found on the car also stating that i was very lucky the airbag never deployed on its own. He replaced the steering wheel and harness stating also i should have no more problems with the car.

On January 15, 2002 the airbag light went off again which at that point i decided to contact the attorney as well as contacting Volkswagen of America to demand a replacement for this car. They said they would have to investigate the claim by looking over the car. Of course i had agreed to these terms hoping they would make the right decision.

When i pulled the car into the dealership they turned around by trying to charge me for the airbag diagnostics as well as the parts needed for the airbag defects. When i refused to pay the dealership said they couldn't help me at all. After about an hour of trying to explain to them it needs to be checked they finally agreed.

Again they said it was the spiral connector, but when i went to go get the car the mechanic said he found a sugary substance on the spiral connector. I informed i was allergic to dark sugary substance type drinks he got very mad at what i said.

Volkswagen of America sent me a letter regarding my problems which they said that an airbag malfunction is not a life threatening situation. They said they want a technical mechanic to now look at it. See the letter

On February 22, 2002, three days after i had recieved Volkswagen of Americas' letter the airbag light had gone off again.

This now makes the fourth defect for the airbag but since Volkswagen of America believes this is not a life threatening situation they will not replace the car.

Airbags save lives by thousands each year only when the airbag is functionable and responds when it should, but, of course thousands of people die each year because of airbag malfunctions. Airbags that deploy when they aren't suppose to or dont deploy when they are suppose to either.

Volkswagen Inc in Germany had did a recall in march 99 for an airbag problem that become life-threatening. Read the Article at Safety
